WHY SHOULD I STUDY PHARMACOLOGY?
Pharmacology is the science of drugs. It describes the interaction between drugs and organisms. Pharmacology includes the knowledge of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of drugs along with their dosage forms and therapeutic uses.
A BAMS/BHMS student should study pharmacology to: Understand basics of Modern Medicine. Use a modern drug for therapeutic purposes with
confidence.
Select appropriate drug/s and dosage form for a
particular patient.
Decide the appropriate route of drug administration,
dosage and duration of treatment.
Understand the risks associated with the prescribed
drugs.
Know drug-drug interactions and drug-food interactions.
Know the adverse effects of a drug. Understand root cause of a disease in a patient who takes
modern medicine. Provide proper instructions to the patient to achieve
maximum efficacy of the drug.
Achieve maximum patient compliance.
Work with modern medicine practitioners and hospitals
Understand the latest research publications and research.
methodologies at the international level.
Understand patents and other IPR issues related to their field
of work.
Do the research of higher standards and present research
work on international platforms. To work in novel fields like Pharmacovigilance.
A pharmacy student should study Pharmacology to: Understand different terminologies and concepts regarding the
therapeutic uses of drugs.
Work as a specialist in drugs and formulations.
Work in coordination with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Design and develop new formulations and drug delivery systems.
Work as an R & D scientist to investigate new drugs.
